Metabolic syndrome is also known as syndrome X. It is a very common
health condition affecting about 33% of adult population in Asian countries, more
so common among women.
It is not a disease in itself, and do not have any symptoms, but the
bluster of conditions which occurs to other. The increases the risk of diabetes,
hypertension and heart disease and stroke.
Metabolic syndrome consists of four important components.
First one has increased blood pressure, which is more than 130 / 80 mm
of mercury.
Second, one is increased blood sugar, which is fasting blood sugar of
more than 100 mg/dl.
Third, one is increased fat around the waist, which we call it apple
go obesity. Here, the waist circumference is increased more than 40 inches for
men and more than 35 inches in just for women.
And the fourth component is increased cholesterol levels, particularly
increased triglycerides more than 150 and reduced HDL level less than 40.
Metabolic syndrome is mainly due to unhealthy lifestyle, which is due
to an imbalance in our dietary habits and our physical activity, and also due
to insulin resistance, smoking and hormonal imbalance, particularly among
women.
Metabolic syndrome is reversible by efforts bringing in changes in our
dietary practices.
As for last increase in physical activity, thus leading to weight loss
of at least more than ten percent dietary changes primarily consist of
controlling intake of saturated fat, trans-fat, cholesterol, and salt in our
diet and increase in consuming fruits and vegetable intake along with whole
grains instead of refine carbohydrates.
Also in increase in physical activity at the guidance of physician and
dietitian with increase in physical activity ranging from 45 min to an hour of just
waking can help us lose weight and reverse metabolic syndrome.
