All Grains Are Complex Carbs by Dr. John Poothullil

My name is John Poothullil and I am a retired doctor. I have been studying “food intake and the role of grains” for over twenty years.

Experts tell us that eating whole grain will give us a lot of fiber and fiber associated nutrients compared to eating refined grains. What you may not be aware of is that you are also consuming a lot of unnecessary glucose or sugar in the form of complex carbohydrate.

For example if you take 100 grams of refined rice you will consume 80 grams of complex carbohydrate the same amount of whole grain rice will give you seventy seven grams of complex carbohydrate. In other words you are practically consuming the same amount of carbohydrates. What is wrong with that whether the complex carbohydrate comes from wheat or rice or corn, each molecule of complex carbohydrate can have up to 200,000 molecules of glucose.

Yes each molecule of complex carbohydrates can have up to 200,000 molecules of glucose. So you are eating an enormous amount of glucose that the body may not be able to use between two meals. The body will convert that into fat and you gain weight.

If you want to control your weight in a more natural way, the best approach would be to avoid grain and grain flour products.
